OFFICIAL STATEMENT

On the Security Environment in the South Caucasus

February 2026
The External Intelligence Service – South Caucasus Region (EIS–SCR) presents its current strategic assessment of the security environment in the South Caucasus in light of ongoing geopolitical developments in the broader Middle East.

As of February 2026, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Georgia remain within a framework of relative stability. Based on available strategic indicators and ongoing monitoring, no signs consistent with imminent large-scale military escalation have been identified across the region.

In particular, the security situation along the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Armenia is assessed as low-risk. Indicators of significant military escalation are minimal and do not currently suggest heightened threat levels.

EIS–SCR welcomes the continued diplomatic engagement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The advancement of peaceful dialogue and normalization efforts represents a constructive and responsible path toward sustainable regional stability. Continued commitment to diplomacy and international legal principles remains essential.

While developments in the Middle East may have indirect economic and geopolitical implications, including in the areas of energy markets and external actor engagement, the overall security posture of the South Caucasus remains stable and manageable at this stage.

Public concern in times of global uncertainty is understandable. However, current assessments do not indicate immediate security deterioration within Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Georgia.

EIS–SCR will continue to monitor regional dynamics closely and provide objective strategic evaluations in accordance with international analytical standards.
